MOT Testing

Vehicle Inspectorate

The Purpose of the MOT test

The purpose of the mot test is to ensure that vehicles over a prescribed age are checked at least once a year to see that they comply with key roadworthiness and environmental requirements.

Once a successful test has been carries out an MOT certificate will be issued.

The test certificate relates only to the items checked during an MOT inspection and only at the time of the MOT test.

This should not be regarded as:

  • The condition of the vehicle at any other time.
  • The vehicle’s mechanical condition. e.g. engine, clutch etc.
  •  That the vehicle fully complies with all the aspects of the vehicle construction and use.
  • The MOT test does not require any dismantling of any part of the vehicle
